Who's on first? See it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Watf8_Rf58s&mode=related&search=
Since the great "parting of the Forums" event, every one of them has been hobbled by lack of our previous hot activity. It WAS fun. I have also noted a lot of speculation on the future of various forums. Everyone seems to be falling into niche's.
Metro-Jacksonville...The Downtown retail and arts development site
JaxOutLoud... The political, law and neighborhood site
SaveTheFerry... (MIGHT) evolve into the preservationist, eco-site
Met-Jax... The "father" of all sites
Urban-Jacksonville... The post once a year site, but post what we like or your history (and I don't know why) site
Trouble is, until it is more refined, nobody gets much thunder. JaxOutLoud gets some good traffic and discussion on political issues. The great land rush to Metro-Jacksonville is (I believe) fueled by the blog. This brings me to my point. If Met-Jax could re-create the blog and launch into new development, infrastructure. JaxOutLoud could blog political hot potato's, and if it develops, "Save the Ferry" evolve into a preservation mecca and develop a blog on those issues. Finally, the Metro-Jacksonville blog could lean into the arts, restaurants and theater scene. It would give everyone a special place, a web-search window to the doors of all of the Forums. More people viewing, more subjects to talk about and more action for everyone.
That's my view. What's yours?

Having a great time with meetup.com and other unselfish objectives
On my first day at meetup.com,, Tonight I went to The Young Republicans group and had a great time and I hope to be able spend some time with just as many nice people in this group real soon. Just a couple of unselfish objectives
Think about having a event at thirsty thursday (DOLLAR BEER NIGHT) at a suns game. Its an event that speaks to the good heartedness and unique ability of people from Jacksonville to have a good time.
I strongly recommend the Jacksonville forums metrojacksonville.com jaxoutloud.com and metjax.com , in fact I have promoted meetup.com on these sites as well. The media doesn't oversee our local government as well as it could and these forum sites are filling a void in what I feel America a great country (unabridged freedom of speach)
One selfish objective Vote for Dave Siebert for state house 16 or tell ten friends (if I end up being a write in candidate S I E bert is spelled with an I,E just like fr I E nd (friend)
Yes along with trying to represent the people at most every city council meeting. I am the beerman at the suns (I genuinely actually really like people)

Having multiple forums might not be a total negative because it does allow more focus on certain subjects. MetJax (un until a few months ago) was an all-in-one discussion board that got quite busy and at times hard to manage. Members were subject to information they might not have cared to view. I can see where it could have been overwhelming for some. Now there are more sites, similar but still different, that are able to focus more on certain subjects. Yeah, you'll have to access multiple sites now to get all of the information you're looking for but the internet doesn't have to contain a one site fits all mentality (think Wal-Mart, something for everyone) because there is plenty of space for each individual forum to do their own thing and better focus on the topics at hand versus trying to cover everything where the information can get dilluted.
I'm a member at multiple urban discussion boards and find information at all of them that I wouldn't have found by sticking to one.

I think it's healthy for our community to have a few forums, and like Jason said, it's good in that it helps with those that have a more defined focus. I've seen how many of us float between them...and that's cool too.

I want to think of it as a competition. People only have so much time so most people will call one forum best and stick to that. Competition brings quality, If these moderators who are inclined to cheer for their site to be the best want quality, they bring up topics that are informative on the other sites.
The concept of your site is best at this and thats ok with me, sucks, its UNAMERICAN, strive to be the best, we need three quality sites. they can all get along, but if they choose not to compete with each other I will loose a lot of respect I have for everyone involved.

Why should they compete? We're not in this for money. We're in this to raise awareness of local happenings and to give the citizens a voice that the government will repond to. Sure there will be those that prefer one site and will stick to it but they might also be missing out on something they didn't even know existed. Things will continue here just as they always have and the moderators and administrators should continue to uphold a level of quality that will maintain a comfortable atmosphere to allow for more meaningful discussions. All of these new sites share many members, administrators, and moderators. We will continue to strive to make things better for all of the site we're involved with.

Having multiple forums IS a good thing since people DO have certain niche's they prefer. "You can't please all of the people all of the time" is proven wisdom.;)
The ones that like to delve into techno graphic urban designing etc like MetJax.:)
Folks that just like to shot the shit like S.E.'s forum.:p
Folks that like to flame and call names and enjoy that sort of thing go to backtalk.
Folks that like "primarily" interJax politics like jaxoutloud.:)
Folks like me, for instance, like to read forums and post about a variety of things that I have strong opinions about OR personal experience with. I have no "particular niche". I like to "wander".:)
The more the better.:)

Yeah, I don't think, nor view the various forums as any kind of competition. Just as others have said, nor should they be.

So if you see a thread on this site that interrests you You should want to see the subject discussed on the site that you think is best If most people involved just want forum sites that are ok and no one wants to be best we will end up with 3 pitiful sites Hopefully some hungrier more motivated people will come along that see these sites as performing a nescessary function.

The function of these sites is as I described, IMO. To be a place where citizens can congregate and discuss issues involving their community.
Maybe I'm not following you. What things would you like to see improved upon?

I don't understand why there "can't" be different forums that focus on different things? If (to pick a brand name at random), Zenith makes the best TV sets, they shouldn't be happy until they make the best family cars, too? Different markets, different providers.

I like participating in the different forums. While we have some common subjects for discussion, each site also has different subjects for discussion. While we have some common members, we each have different members as well. So some of the same articles/topics, get totally different discussions depending on who's posting about it and on which site. It gives a totally different flavor to each site. And I like that.
Competition is fine, but I don't think that is what blogs are, or should be, about. :)
