This seems right up Stephens ally.
Online Gambling on Global Warming

Apr 13 01:12 PM US/Eastern

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Think global warming will raise the oceans enough to submerge Cape Hatteras? Want to bet on it?
An online gambling service has started taking bets on global warming, including whether it can submerge some of the East Coast's top vacation spots.

The odds that Virginia's Cape Henry will be under water by 2015—200- to-1 at BetUs.com. Its odds for Cape Hatteras flooding by the same date—300-to-1.

Don't bet on it, says Phil Roehrs, a coastal engineer for the city of Virginia Beach. Roehrs said although sea levels are rising along the East Coast, scientists are not predicting anywhere near the levels and dates provided by the gambling service.

"No wonder the odds are so good," Roehrs said.

That hasn't stopped bettors from taking a chance. About 3,000 placed bets during the first three days on online booking, said Reed Richards, a spokesman for BetUs.com.

Most gamblers on the site have put down money that Manhattan will be submerged before New Year's Eve 2011.

"Don't ask me why," Richards said.

This speaks to the idiocy of the uninformed, its a shame that people just react. Manhattan underwater by 2011, that's a farce. When it comes to sea level rise, that is one area that I choose to watch year by year and hesitate to make any predictions.

What happens if the unexpected happens and the combination of higher temps, melting ice, and higher evaporation of the oceans cause excessive vapor, or clouds, and this starts a global cooling trend; which starts to drive the needle back in the other direction? This is supposition and it would be great if someone produced actual good information to refute this idea.

I am always cautious of straight line thinking.

^ That's it Bentnail, highlight the details of what is considered a normal water cycle and label it as a part of global cooling...or global warming...or global climate change.

And before you start dictating how uninformed we are and how we are not reading the facts, let me tell you that I've read plenty of articles and research that debunks the theories you hold as actual scientific law. As I've said before in another thread, this debate boils down to actual facts and science...not hypotheses (i.e., educated guesses). I choose to utilize the information I have read, you've chosen your information, and we're going to have to just agree to disagree.

You didn't read a damn thing I wrote.

Yes I did. And I think most of it is B.S.

well the cool thing about this thread is that it allows those who "know" global warming is going to sink our cities to put their money where their mouth is!
