According to WOKV (radio), Jacksonville has just been named a regional site for the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Jacksonville will host the 1st and 2nd rounds as we did in 2006. This selection was based on the strong support that the City showed the tournament this year. This is clearly another feather in Jacksonville's sporting cap and is great news for the City.

Good news, what would it take for us to get the Final Four?

An indoor facility that holds 35,000, and about 17,000 hotel rooms, from what I recall. The only way we host the final four is if we bring in the cruise ships and put a dome over Alltel

However, I think we are close to being able to hold a regional (in '06 and '10 we are actually sub-regionals), which has it's requirements somewhere in the middle.

Good news for Jacksonville. It was pretty tough to get tickets to this years games.

As for the Final Four, forget it. It will be in St. Pete, St. Louis, Indy, Minnesota and other cities with domes. And even the regionals are in mega-arenas like East Rutherford, Houston, Denver and Dallas.

I got my terminology wrong. 1st and 2nd rounds are sub-regionals. However, we still get a bunch of games this way which means more people downtown for a week. Also, this selection means that we are probably in the rotation to host at least part of the NCAA men's basketball tournament for the foreseeable future. Good news.

Probably not over Alltel but maybe the next stadium. Hard to believe it has been 11+ years since Alltel was built/renovated

I thought it was 20 thousands(seats) for the final four?

^No, that's the regionals. Normally the Final Four is held in a football stadium, like the Georgia Dome, RCA Dome, etc.

Personally, I think the days of everyone getting a new stadium are over - that was largely done to replace the cookie-cutter round baseball/football facilities like Fulton County, the Vet and Three Rivers
