City council is voting on a bill to put a referendum before duval county voters to possibly combine the election cycles saving us 2.6 million.
Oops maybe I should have stated first combining elections puts less emphisis on local races and makes it harder for activist to get involved in as many campaigns as activists would like to.
There are a lot of ways to look at what is trying to be accomplished here.
I am against the idea of combining elections but I support the bill to let people decide on one condition (and its a big condition) as long as the ballot summary is truly reflective of both arguements pro and con
I think "the better Jacksonville plan" did a disservice to the community and so would this, if there is any degree of this referendum sounding like "the better voting plan"
Jerry Holland and I talked about this at length yesterday on my show He said he will get me the proposed ballot summary but I would really like us fair minded people here to first establish some criteria for how the summary should be written please take a shot at it 75 words or less.
This is something I think if you want to take a stand on while city council is deciding this (at the meeting )they will truly listen to us. if the public takes a stand on this they may ammend the bill to reflect what the public wants.
