Oceanfront's changing face: Fewer eateries (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/011406/nes_20803171.shtml)

The fact that there are not, and that some former oceanfront dining spots have vanished, concerns Sandy Golding, founder and chairwoman of the Beaches Watch Group, an organization committed to controlling growth at the Beaches.

Golding worries about the oceanfront establishments that remain. She said she and her husband, Jim ,often visited First Street Grille and enjoy visiting other oceanfront restaurants.

"Those of us who live at the Beach want to keep places we can enjoy," she said. "What happens when others go away? It seems these days it's easy to just sell and let somebody put a condo up and move on. It's such a shame."

To the citizens of Jax Beach....it doesn't have to be that way. Mixed-use buildings are a wonderful concept that's sweeping the nation. The local beach market grows with every new condo project that goes up, thus strengthening the dining market. Make these developers consider placing limited retail & dining space along an "extended" beach walk and First Street, instead of parking lots & garages.

Agreed. They should try and add in the current restaurant into their mixed used developments if possible.
